Dear Readers,
Approximately 1 decade ago, the OPUS 12 Foundation, Inc., [Figure 1] launched its original journal, OPUS 12 Scientist (ISSN 1940-8633). The foundation continually supported the journal's efforts, with a continued stream of original articles, case reports, editorials, various communications, and other academic publications. The OPUS 12 Scientist also helped pioneer and promote a number of novel publication types, including evidence tables, clinical multimedia images, and sonography tutorials. | Figure 1: Organization logos for OPUS 12 Foundation, Inc., and INDO-US Trauma and Emergency Collaborative. As the size of our research network grew along with an increasing level of our research's sophistication, OPUS 12 Foundation, Inc., decided to join forces with its long-time global ally, INDO-US Trauma and Emergency Collaborative [Figure 1] to merge our publication efforts in academic medicine into the International Journal of Academic Medicine (IJAM, ISSN 2455-5568). The inaugural issue of IJAM was published in December 2015 and marked a momentous achievement for both of its sponsoring organizations, the publisher (Wolters-Kluwer MedKnow), its Editors, reviewers, and authors.
After the publication of IJAM's second issue (Volume 2, Number 1, January–June, 2016), Editorial Board leadership of the former OPUS 12 Scientist and IJAM's Principal Editors unanimously voted to celebrate the first decade of our academic presence by reprinting the most impactful original articles published in the now formally retired OPUS 12 Scientist. By carefully choosing the highest quality papers to be reprinted in IJAM, we hoped to create a collection of high-impact, academically-oriented articles that will highlight the finest achievements of OPUS 12 Scientist and create a palpable sense of continuity between our legacy and our future.
We are now proudly presenting this special 10th Anniversary “OPUS 12 Scientist” Issue of the International Journal of Academic Medicine. We hope that you will enjoy reading this exciting new “old” content. We also hope to follow-up with additional issues dedicated to reprinting our previously published reviews, case reports, and various other manuscripts. As we grow our new venture, we hope to attract more excellent original articles, reviews, case reports, and commentaries.
